Television documentary production

Getting into "doco" making

To gain the “track record” required to become something of a legitimate documentary maker (according to industry stalwarts), Richard had to write, film, present, direct, edit and post-produce his first film. This was out of necessity as no one is interested helping or funding a first timer. But he quickly realised that working alone was the best way to travel, get great interviews and that the new technologies meant he rarely needed help anyway. So what seemed like a daunting prospect became Richard’s signature modus operandi…..

Since 2000, he has produced and presented numerous programs for SBS Television, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, TransTV, Aurora and National Indigenous Television (NITV).
